About Custom Orthotics

What is a Custom Made Orthotic?

Custom-made orthotic devices are used to treat heel pain, plantar fasciitis, ball of foot pain, ankle type pain and lower leg and knee pain by controlling abnormal foot function.

They are made from a computer scan of your feet with the foot in a non-weight-bearing position, this captures the arch perfectly they are made from a flexible plastic which is resilient thus can be used for sports and are very comfortable, most other doctor’s make them from a very hard non-flexible material. These are very uncomfortable and patients really have a hard time wearing them. Flexibility is the key to getting a great fit. Most type of commercial supports ie GoodFeet™, Ideal Feet™, or Hanger type arch supports are made from stepping into a foam box a less than desirable fit.

What problems can Orthotics help?

Custom orthotics can be used to treat a wide range of problems. It successfully treats heel pain, plantar fasciitis, metatarsal pain, ankle pain and function, and general lower leg pain, knee pain, and lower extremity fatigue. They help many times with lower back pain by maintaining correct foot function and shock absorption in the heel area.

Orthotics can be made for both sport and dress-type shoes. Sometimes with dress orthotics, to get a proper fit, we ask you for a pair of shoes to send with the cast. Orthotics are flexible and can be made to be full length within the shoe with padding. We rarely make rigid orthotics because they are hard to wear and can hurt the feet. We have offices in Overland Park, Kansas and Kansas City north.

I'm was a Special Forces Medic in the Army. I have been running, carrying heavy rucksacks, and lifting most of my life. I developed plantar fasciitis while on active duty and have struggled with it for years. The army made inserts for me; they didn't help. I tried the most expensive over the counter insoles I could find and they felt nice in my shoes, but that's about it. Insoles, physical therapy, nothing helped. A few years ago I was resigned to the fact I would fight the condition the rest of my life, but I went to see Dr. Bembynista anyway. It was immediately apparent his knowledge of the disease process was superior to anyone I had seen previously. The method by which he designs and makes orthotics was completely different than I had experience before. The results of Dr. Bembynista's course of treatment far exceed any previous treatment I received. In my opinion, going straight to see him, if you have a foot pain, will give you the best chance to reduce or eliminate that pain.

Writing this review from the wife's point of view...my husband had given up on finding any relief for his foot pain. He had been to multiple podiatrists with no relief found. I told him he couldn't give up that there had to be someone out there who could fix his feet or at least lessen the pain. I searched online reading reviews for days until I kept running across Dr. Bembynista and decided to make the appointment for my husband. Dr. Bembynista has been a miracle worker. Injections, trimming and orthotics later he feels 100% better. He can now walk without pain and enjoying life more. Mike says....HE LISTENS!!! Recommend to every one who needs relief!! He is THE BEST!!!
